I taught school for 33 years, including 6 years in junior high, 21 years in high school, and 6 years as the State Social Studies Specialist at the Colorado Dept of Education. I loved teaching, miss the kids, and do not miss grading papers!! Joanie Percy and Sharon (Baker) Young remain close friends all these years later...
I finally married in 1989, finally divorced in 2009... Tary restored & repaired antique furniture, has two daughters, Sarah & Jane. We met when the girls were 4 and 5; today they are 30 and 31. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in late 1990s. That was a huge challenge - more for him than me - and learning to be a patient and loving caregiver was another of life's lessons. After 21 years, we called it quits, which was a very hard thing for me to accept. One daughter remains close, the other not. So goes life. No grandkids yet, and both say never!! Grandpups & grandkitters may be all we get in that department.
I have one cat, an aging Ellie-Kitty. She's 23 and recently had 2 hours of oral surgery - lost most of her teeth. Since then she's entered her 4th or 5th life -- WAY happier, WAY more active.. YEAH! (Maybe I should try oral surgery to see if it would activate me!)
My own health challenges include two 8-hour back surgeries in 2005 & 2006, then 2 new knees in Dec 2008. Am regaining mobility with a little -- or rather a LOT of -- help from friends and nephews who encourage me to walk and walk and walk.
Related to the divorce we sold our beloved 1890 Victorian home, which we had expanded & restored, all in keeping with the original style. I moved to a condo in Boulder, which was LOTS easier to manage, though was incredibly hard to give up the Pine St home. Am now in the process of further down-sizing, moving at least part-time back to our family home in Sturgis. I'll keep a small apartment or something in Boulder, but expect to spend increasing amount of time in Sturgis - all but August.
So, if you're in Sturgis, I have a small apartment as an alternative to motels. Come see me, say hi, remind me of past details, and we'll connect again! Would be fun.
I had a great time attending planning meetings and working with classmates to help organize my own high school 40th reunion in 2007, then mini reunions each June since... Here's hoping you all have as much fun as we did! Wish I could be there... maybe for your 30th...
affectionately, Ginny
