I saved John's obituary in a scrapbook. It read as follows:

John Glenn Markham, 18, Route 1, Berthoud, died from a brain tumor Saturday, September 6, 1980, in his home.
He was born March 1, 1962 in Longmont and was a graduate of Skyline High School, Longmont.
The son of Glenn D. and Patricia Ann Harvey Markham, of Berthoud, he was an avid sportsman and played football and wrestling for Skyline High School. He was 185-pound Northern Colorado Champion in 1980 and a member of the 4-H Club.
Mr. Markham is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Mrs. Freda Harvey, Longmont; one brother, Edmund Markham, Berthoud; and one sister, Vickie Sue Markham, Berthoud.
A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Ninth Avenue and Francis Street, with the Rev. Eugene Van Kranenburg officiating. Cremation will follow the service.

I was lucky to know John Glenn and become his friend during our Jr. and Sr. years at SHS. I was very saddened when he passed away and I still think of him often when I look at my HS photos and scrapbooks.

Myself as well Sonja.  Thanks for posting that.  Actually it wasn't until years later that I recognized how traumatic John's death was for me.  I talked with Terrie about it a few years ago.  Back then we didn't really have the support for grieving and managing loss in such a profound way - and we were so so young.  Then quickly going off to school and trying to start a new lfe.  He was an amazing and special person and I also often think of the fun we had, his sweetness and joie de vivre and his family.  And hope that they are well.

I remember when Coach Heiby told me he was putting me at outside LB and I thought WHAT! He said don't worry, just streach the play out and let the Middle LB get the tackle. Lucky for me my MLB was John Glenn! he took care of business!! Thanks JGM for having my back on the field.. It was an honor and privledge to play with him.
